How the ArcheAge Chronicles Warrior plays with the Longsword and Greatsword, including parry routes, Resolve spending, stat priority and the December Gladius.
ArcheAge Chronicles Warrior Class
Warrior is a Strength-based melee class with two identities: a Longsword duellist who wins through parry timing, and a Greatsword frontline that absorbs pressure and spends Resolve on heavy counterattacks.
Warrior is the most documented class in ArcheAge Chronicles and the one most new players should consider. It has two complete weapon paths, a clear defensive loop and the first third weapon on the post-launch roadmap. This guide covers how each path actually plays, which stats support it and what to expect in the December update.
The two launch weapons
| Weapon | Fantasy | Core loop |
|---|---|---|
| Longsword | Precise duellist | Parry, Closing Clash, Bladeburst, punish recovery |
| Greatsword | Armoured frontline | Take hits, build Resolve, spend on Final Cleave or Rampage |
The Longsword also has a blood-price branch. It spends your own health to increase damage, then drains health back through attacks. That is a high-risk option for players who know a fight and want to convert confidence into pressure.
The Greatsword tree splits into damage and defence. The damage branch unlocks Armor Break and turns Sunder into Sweeping Slash, which hits twice with a wider cleave. The defensive branch adds Pummel Strike, usable while guarding, and grants a shield.
How Longsword Warrior plays
Longsword is about refusing the enemy's best attack. Parry is the centre of the kit: time it, then use Closing Clash to stay on the target and Bladeburst to convert the opening. The blood branch changes the rhythm from patient to aggressive, but it assumes you can land the drain.
In solo play, this is the most forgiving Warrior path because a successful parry both negates damage and creates a damage window. In PvP, it rewards reading a telegraph, but it also requires you to stay in melee range against ranged classes.
How Greatsword Warrior plays
Greatsword is about accepting pressure. You take hits, build Resolve and spend it on Final Cleave, Rampage or Warrior's Cry. The defensive branch's Pummel Strike lets you keep attacking while guarding, which smooths out the class's slow moments.
This is the better group path. A Greatsword Warrior can hold a boss's attention, absorb a mechanic and still contribute damage. It is also the easier path to play with a controller because the loop is less dependent on frame-perfect parries.

Stats and traits
Warrior scales with Strength. Agility adds crit chance and some physical attack, but it is a secondary stat, not a replacement. Constitution and Endurance are defensive investments for Greatsword and for later regions.
Trait points come from Raeven's Coilstones, not levels. The Longsword and Greatsword trees are separate, so committing to one weapon early is more efficient than splitting points. Each weapon's tree also has branches that change skills, which is why two Warriors can look different in the same dungeon.
Strengths and weaknesses
Strengths
- Best parry and guard tools among the launch classes
- Two genuinely different weapon identities
- Strong solo and group frontline options
- First class to receive a third weapon
Weaknesses
- No ranged option
- Longsword demands timing
- Greatsword can feel slow during leveling
- PvP requires closing distance against Ranger and Mage
The December Gladius
The first post-launch update adds the Gladius as Warrior's third weapon. XLGAMES has not published its full skill list, so treat any specific Gladius rotation as speculation. The confirmed detail is that every class will receive a third weapon sequentially, with Warrior first.
A third weapon matters because weapon trees carry trait points and skill modifications. It gives Warrior a new progression lane without erasing the Longsword or Greatsword investment.
Should you play Warrior?
Play Warrior if you want a melee class with a real defensive answer and do not mind learning enemy timing. Avoid it if you want ranged play or dislike parry-based defence.
The classes guide compares all four kits, and the weapons page explains how trait trees differ across the eight launch weapons.
