How leveling works in ArcheAge Chronicles: EXP sources, stat priorities, Raeven's Coilstone trait points and a practical first-character route.
ArcheAge Chronicles Leveling Guide
Quest, explore and open the world. Most EXP comes from questing, discovery and points of interest — not from grinding the same camp. In ArcheAge Chronicles, wandering is the efficient route.
ArcheAge Chronicles starts every character at level 1 and expects you to learn the world while you level. The level cap has not been published, so this guide focuses on the systems that matter at every level: EXP sources, stat points, Coilstones and the order in which to develop a weapon.
Where EXP comes from
XLGAMES lists three main sources:
- Quests — the main story and regional chains
- World discovery — finding new areas and points of interest
- Collection points — the 1,000+ interactables spread across the three regions
Combat kills give EXP, but they are not the primary route. A player who follows the main path and ignores side areas will level more slowly than one who treats exploration as content.
The PvP channel bonus is also relevant: monster kills in a PvP channel give 10–15% more EXP. That is a meaningful boost if you are comfortable with open PvP, and a trap if you are not.
Stat points
Every level gives stat points. One point buys one stat, with no escalating cost. That makes early experimentation cheap, but it does not make every spread viable.
| Stat | Use |
|---|---|
| Strength | Physical attack |
| Agility | Crit chance and physical attack |
| Constitution | HP and crit resistance |
| Intelligence | Magic attack |
| Talent | Magic attack and equipment requirements |
| Endurance | Stamina and defence |
Put your first points into the damage stat your weapon uses: Strength for Warrior and Berserker, Agility for Ranger, Intelligence for Mage. Add Constitution or Endurance only when a region starts killing you faster than you can react.
Raeven's Coilstones and trait points
Trait points are separate from leveling. They come from Raeven's Coilstones, which are placed near powerful bosses, hidden in the world or spawned by quests.
This is the most important leveling detour in the game. A Coilstone gives you a point for your weapon's trait tree, and those points change skills. Skipping them leaves you with a higher-level character and a weaker kit.
Make Coilstone hunting part of each region's route. If a Coilstone is guarded by a field boss, come back after a level or two rather than skipping it permanently.
Weapon progression
Each weapon has its own trait tree. Longsword and Greatsword are separate, as are Longbow and Hatchet. Commit to one weapon for your first twenty hours.
The tree branches matter more than raw damage nodes. The Greatsword damage branch unlocks Armor Break and turns Sunder into Sweeping Slash; the defensive branch adds Pummel Strike and a shield. Those are playstyle changes, not incremental percentages.
A practical first-character route
- Finish the opening quest chain and unlock your first weapon skills.
- Clear the starting area's discovery points before moving on.
- Pick up every Coilstone you can reach safely.
- Spend stat points on your damage stat every level.
- Run the first dungeon solo or with a friend to learn boss telegraphs.
- Only branch into a second weapon after your first tree has its core skills.
What not to do
- Do not spread stat points across physical and magic stats.
- Do not split trait points between two weapons early.
- Do not skip discovery points to rush the story.
- Do not grind mobs for hours; quests and exploration pay better.
- Do not assume a published level cap; none exists yet.
The class system page explains the stat and trait layers in more detail, and the Auroria map page covers the three launch regions.

FAQ
What is the fastest way to level in ArcheAge Chronicles?
Questing while clearing discovery and collection points. Exploration is a primary EXP source, not optional side content.
Are trait points from leveling?
No. They come from Raeven's Coilstones found near bosses, in hidden locations or through quests.
What stat should I level first?
Your weapon's damage stat: Strength, Agility or Intelligence. Add Constitution only when survivability becomes a problem.
Is there a level cap?
XLGAMES has not published one.
