ArcheAge Chronicles Classes Guide

Start with the weapon, not the label

Every class in ArcheAge Chronicles has two weapons, and the weapon changes your skills more than the class name does. Pick the weapon fantasy first, then learn the class around it.

ArcheAge Chronicles launches with four classes and eight weapons. That is a small roster by MMO standards, so the real choice is not "which class is strongest" but "which kit will I still enjoy after forty hours". This guide walks through each class, the two weapon paths, the stats that support them and the questions to ask before committing.

The four classes at a glance

Class Weapons Best at Main weakness
Warrior Longsword, Greatsword Dueling, parry timing, frontline damage Has to close distance
Ranger Longbow, Hatchet Solo play, ranged pressure, mobility Less group utility than a shield class
Mage Elemental Staff, Thundersword Elemental damage and ranged clears Least documented kit at launch
Berserker Axe and Shield, Warhammer Initiating, protecting allies, heavy frontline Slower damage windows

Each class is gender locked at Early Access. Warrior and Berserker are male-only; Ranger and Mage are female-only. The December update adds a female Warrior and the Warrior's Gladius.

Warrior: parry or Resolve

Warrior's Longsword path is the timing route. Parry, Closing Clash and Bladeburst reward reading an attack, and a second branch spends health for damage and drains it back. The Greatsword path is the pressure route: take hits, build Resolve, then spend it on Final Cleave, Rampage or Warrior's Cry.

Choose Longsword if you want a duelist. Choose Greatsword if you want to stand in the middle of a pack and convert incoming damage into a counterattack. Both paths scale with Strength, with Constitution as the defensive supplement.

Ranger: precision or lightning

Longbow is the cleanest ranged kit in the game. Rapid Fire marks a target and rains arrows, Fire Arrow is an explosive finisher, Ice Arrow immobilises, Aimed Shot rewards setup and Crescent Kick punishes an enemy who closes. Hatchet is a mobile melee alternative built on Stormsplitter, Overcharge, Shocking Kick, Storm Chaser and Wind Blade.

Longbow is the safer solo pick. Hatchet is the more active PvP pick. Ranger damage scales with Agility, which also adds crit chance, so the stat line is straightforward.

Mage: elemental chains

Mage wields the Elemental Staff or the Thundersword. The identity is elemental chaining and high magic damage, with less revealed footage than the melee classes. Intelligence is the damage stat; Talent also contributes to magic attack and equipment requirements.

Mage is the right pick if you want magic and are comfortable learning a kit without a large body of community testing. It is the wrong pick if you need the most proven launch build.

Berserker: shield or hammer

Berserker's Axe and Shield path charges into enemy lines, absorbs attacks and protects allies. The Warhammer path is slower and heavier, with more emphasis on controlling a frontline. Strength is the damage stat; Constitution and Endurance keep the shield path alive.

Berserker is the easiest class to justify in a four-player dungeon because it is the only class with a dedicated shield. It is not a pure support: the kit still expects you to deal damage.

How to choose

  1. Want to tank or protect? Berserker.
  2. Want to duel and parry? Warrior.
  3. Want ranged solo play? Ranger with Longbow.
  4. Want mobile melee? Ranger with Hatchet or Warrior with Longsword.
  5. Want magic? Mage, with the understanding that its kit is the least documented.

Do not choose by tier list alone. The tier list ranks launch risk, not long-term fun, and the best class page breaks the decision down by player type.

Stats and trait points

Every level gives one stat point per point invested, with no escalating cost. Trait points are separate and come from Raeven's Coilstones near bosses, hidden spots and quests. Every weapon has its own trait tree, so a Longsword Warrior and a Greatsword Warrior do not share progression.

Put your first points into the damage stat your weapon uses. Add Constitution or Endurance only when a region starts punishing you. The class system page explains the full stat list.

FAQ

How many classes does ArcheAge Chronicles have?

Four: Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Berserker, each with two weapons at launch.

Which class is easiest for a new player?

Warrior. Its parry and guard tools are the most forgiving, and both weapon paths have a clear defensive answer.

No class-change system has been announced. Choose a class you are willing to learn for the launch period.

Do weapons change skills?

Yes. Each weapon has its own trait tree, and branches can add or replace skills, not just stats.
