A practical ArcheAge Chronicles guide for launch week: class and weapon choices, stat priorities, trait points, dungeons, PvP channels and a day-one route.
ArcheAge Chronicles Guide
Your first meaningful decision is class plus weapon, not a micro-optimised stat spread. Pick a class whose defensive tool you will actually use, spend stat points with a plan, and treat trait points as a separate progression track earned from Coilstones and bosses.
This guide is a launch roadmap for ArcheAge Chronicles, built from the systems XLGAMES has actually described. It avoids the two common mistakes in pre-release guides: copying the original ArcheAge's 220-class system, and pretending the game has a solved endgame before the servers open.
Before launch: four things to settle
First, confirm your platform. Steam Early Access opens November 3 at 3:00 PM PST; PS5 and Xbox pages are wishlist-only. Second, check the system requirements — 100 GB of SSD space is not a placeholder number. Third, decide whether you are buying the $29.99 Standard Edition or the pre-order version with the Dawn Pioneer costume. Fourth, decide how much time you can give the first week, because Early Access rewards breadth: questing, discovery and field bosses all feed progression.
Do not spend hours comparing damage numbers that no one has measured. The launch balance will change in December, when the first content update adds a female Warrior, the Warrior's Gladius and a set of combat adjustments. A clean class choice matters more than a perfect one.

Step 1: choose a class by the defensive tool
The four classes are Warrior, Ranger, Mage and Berserker. Each has two weapons, and the weapon determines the skill tree, not just the stat stick.
- Warrior is the most forgiving melee pick. Longsword gives parry timing and a blood-price branch; Greatsword gives Resolve generation and heavy finishers. If you like guard-and-counter combat, start here.
- Ranger is the safest solo pick. Longbow keeps you at range with Rapid Fire, Fire Arrow and Ice Arrow; Hatchet turns the class into a mobile lightning bruiser with Stormsplitter.
- Mage is the highest-variance pick. Elemental Staff and Thundersword both lean on elemental chains, and the preview material shows less detail than the melee classes.
- Berserker is the group frontline. Axe and Shield charges in and protects allies; Warhammer trades speed for heavier crowd damage.
The classes guide explains each kit, and the best class page frames the choice by role instead of declaring one winner.
Step 2: spend the first stat points with intent
There are six stats: Strength, Agility, Constitution, Intelligence, Talent and Endurance. Strength is physical attack, Agility is crit chance plus physical attack, Constitution is HP plus crit resistance, Intelligence is magic attack, Talent is magic attack plus equipment requirements, and Endurance is stamina plus defence. One point buys one stat, with no rising cost.
That means you can correct a mistake cheaply early on. It does not mean every stat is equally useful. A Warrior should not split points between Strength and Intelligence. A Ranger should not ignore Agility if crit is part of the kit. A Mage needs Intelligence and Talent. Constitution and Endurance are defensive taxes you pay when a region starts hurting.
The leveling guide has a stat-by-stat breakdown and a trait-point plan.
Step 3: treat trait points as their own progression track
Trait points do not come from levels. They come from Raeven's Coilstones, which are placed near powerful bosses, hidden in the world, or spawned by quests. Every weapon type has its own trait tree, and branches change skills. A Greatsword's damage branch unlocks Armor Break and turns Sunder into Sweeping Slash; its defensive branch adds Pummel Strike and a shield.
This is the real build system. Before you chase a second weapon, finish the first weapon's early branches. The weapons page lists all eight trees and the December Gladius plan.
Step 4: follow the main story through each region
Early Access contains three regions: Diamond Shores, Gylden Ruins and Astron Plains. The demo only covered Diamond Shores. XLGAMES says the full launch has more than 60 areas, 1,000+ exploration and collection points, and region-specific stories, bosses and dungeons.
Do not treat the game as a race to a level cap that has not been published. Finish each region's main story before moving on: quests are the main EXP source, and region completion is what unlocks the local dungeon, field boss loop and Hersander's Tower. The Auroria map guide breaks down what is known about each region.
Step 5: build a daily loop
A sustainable launch loop looks like this:
- Finish the current region's story quests.
- Clear the local dungeon once, solo or with a party of up to four.
- Hunt the field boss and any Coilstone bosses you can reach.
- Spend trait points before the next session, not after a failure.
- Bank gear and crafting materials instead of vendoring everything.
Dungeon progress survives a disconnect, and parties persist across standard and PvP channels, so you do not need to re-form after every session.
Step 6: choose a PvP channel deliberately
Standard channels are safe from player attacks. PvP channels flag everyone except your party and guild, and monster kills there give 10–15% bonus EXP. You switch at a Nui Statue, with a cooldown.
For launch week, level in a standard channel and move to a PvP channel when you want the EXP bonus or when your group is ready to contest a boss. There are no player-kill rewards at launch, so camping a route is a time cost with no direct currency payout.
Step 7: do not ignore the December patch
The first update adds a female Warrior, the Gladius third weapon and combat tuning. If you are set on Warrior, the Gladius is a reason to keep the class rather than reroll. If you are set on another class, expect your third weapon later in the sequence. XLGAMES says the goal is to remove all gender locks by full release.

FAQ
What should I do first in ArcheAge Chronicles?
Finish the prologue, pick a class and weapon you can actually control, then follow the main story in Diamond Shores. Do not chase side content until you have your first trait points and a working stat spread.
Can I change class later?
XLGAMES has not published a class-change system. The game uses fixed classes, and the announced respec discussion is about stat and trait allocation, not swapping from Warrior to Mage. Treat your class choice as long-term.
Is there a level cap?
No level cap has been published. XLGAMES describes progression through quests, discovery, stats, traits and gear, not a public level ceiling.
Should I play on a PvP channel at launch?
Only when you want the 10–15% monster EXP bonus or you are moving with a group. Standard channels are the lower-friction way to finish the story.
